When it comes to offshore wind farms, you don’t get any bigger than London Array. London Array is the world’s largest offshore wind farm; generating enough electricity to power nearly half a million homes per year, saving a massive 925,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
When we were approached to print the London Array Inauguration promotion pack, we were simply blown away. Using our specialist knowledge gained from producing the Trinity House brochure (see previous blog post), our client only had Pyramid in mind to produce this high profile campaign.
The project consistent of a suite of printed material, including calendars, presentation boxes, belly wraps, a limited edition print and spectacular case bound brochure.
The case bound brochure simply called ‘The World’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm’ (hindsight suggests it should have been called ‘The World’s Best Piece of Print’) demonstrates Pyramid’s ability to deliver a high profile campaign without any comprise on quality. Piecing the brochure together involved many innovative finishing’s and materials. From de-bossing, to foiling, to thread sewing to case bound, from fine linen to 100% recycled paper were all used. Limited to only 650 copies, these will be a memorable memento of the Inauguration ceremony which was attended by many senior cabinet ministers and dignitaries.

To help you select the correct paper and board Pyramid have created three exclusive swatches for
a) Coated Paper
b) Uncoated Paper
c) Speciality Paper
These include environmental friendly; FSC® accredited, and recycled sheets too.

Mark Willson dusted down his pushbike and took on The Santini Lincoln Grand Prix Sportive, along with over 1,300 other pedal pushers. The Sportiv is 100mile cycle through the Lincolnshire Wolds and cobbled streets of Lincoln City.
The leader of our pack is pictured, below, leading the pack, and coming up the grueling cobbled incline of Michaelgate, that runs along side Steep Hill, before crossing the finishing line in the centre of Bailgate.
We’re hoping to attract more members for our cycling club and support Mark next year.
Trinity House is Nottingham’s newest flagship building for E.ON. Trinity House will hold ‘BREEM’ Excellent accreditation and Energy Performance Certificate rate of ‘A’. Grade ‘A’ and ‘Excellent’ are two terms that can be applied to the gorgeous tactile brochure we produced for Trinity House.
Every print project undertakes a unique path from initial conversation with the client, through to completion and beyond. The process of bringing the Trinity House brochure to life was particularly interesting and makes a compelling case study, of how to do things right.
Every complicated jobs, begins life as a prototype. Based on the clients specification of
Case Cover – 135gsm Dark Blue Colorplan
Endpapers – 135gsm Colorplan Bright Red
96pp Text – 170gsm Silk
16pp Text – 150gsm Offset
We engineered a prototype.
However the cases curled within a 24-hour period. Having not experienced this phenomenon before, we had to go back to the drawing board and identify what caused the curling. Over a 6-week period we produced several prototypes. Using different materials for the case covers, case boards and endpapers (changing weights / grain directions and leaving them in different environments i.e hot / cold to see if this also had an effect). Our extensive research pointed to the Colorplan material being the root of our problem. Having used Wibalin on previous case bound books, we recommended to the client that Wibalin needs to substitute the Colorplan, and provided them another prototype using the Wibalin.
Once the case bound sample was approved, we then amended the artwork for the deboss on the case cover so it was central from spine to fore-edge and amended the flat size and individual panel size of the dust jacket whilst also re-positioning the spot UV varnish area.
Every aspect of the process was micro managed by Vicki at Pyramid Press, working closely with the client, Vicki held the clients hand through the entire process. Helping the client pass various sections on press and the debossing on the cover, Vicki’s organizational and customer services skills ensured that we delivered in a brochure of equal quality to the magnificent Trinity House building
Producing JCB’s ‘Why you should choose a new JCB T4i IIIB Loadall…’ Maltese cross mailer is another project that illustrates our excellent print and finishing skills. A Maltese Cross is never easy to produce, and a keen eye on quality is essential
The mailer was printed on 300 gsm FSC® Credited Silk, ensuring that the JCB yellow matched, throughout the run, and to previous work, highlights the benefits of our stringent quality control procedures. Equally our keen eye for detail ensured the die cutting was precise ensuring the mailer folded neatly, and fitted snugly into the envelope we produced.
Working with Optima Design, Pyramid produced several exciting promotional pieces for the Lincolnshire Showground.
These items were printed on 100% recycled uncoated stocks, again Pyramid’s stringent quality control procedures ensured that colours across the suite matched.
Continuing Pyramid’s quest to maintain the worlds forests we suggested that the brochure should carry the FSC® logo, promoting our and our clients ethnical standing on the sustainability of the world forests.
Our client was equally impressed with the finished product and service levels throughout the project. But were blown away when we delivered in 12 digitally printed copies, of the brochure, for an important shareholder meeting, whilst the main litho run was being produced.
