You have spent a fortune of photography, hours on selecting the right images. Painstakingly positioned your final images into your brochure. After numerous meetings and discussions with your client, selecting materials, size and binding options you get approval to go to press. Days pass, and you are excited to see your photo’s in your perfect bound brochure, only to be disappointed at the match ups across the spreads.
With careful planning, experience, an eye for detail, match ups across spreads on perfect bound brochures can be achieved.
Getting it right at repro is only the start of the process. Careful guillotining, immaculate folding and precise binding will help you achieve your design goals. The minutest of movement can create a mismatch across the spread and obscure the image, or worse miss out vital details.
Pictured is one of many ‘match-ups’ within the brochure. Should you like to see this and other samples of our work, please contact Jas.
Our hotelier client in Nottingham had this fantastic idea of providing their clients with ‘sleep spray’. Rather than just place the bottle on the bedside table, our client wanted a simple devise that holds the spray.
They decided on a cloud concept, knowing that clouds are associated with a good night’s sleep. Having a rough outline of their design, Pyramid provide a few alternative mock ups of concepts for the Sleep Spray, from simple place mats, to complex flip boxes, to integrated backboards.
The final design (as shown below) ticked all the boxes, minimalist, stylish, cost effective and matched the ambience of their hotel. The final specification included 140 gsm FSC® uncoated stock, printed with a tint of black, die cut with a slit to house the Sleep Spray. The finishing touch included adding a vertical slit at the both ends of the horizontal slit to prevent any tearing when the bottle was placed in it.

The Challenges have been coming think and fast for Jas. Over the last four months, Jas has completed 5 more runs, adding another 51.2 miles to his total.
Event 5 was the Lincoln 10k (6 miles), this was his second time he running this course. The first time was April 2013, achieving 52 mins 11 secs. This year he got a PB of 44 mins, 48 secs. He came in 435th, out of 5000 runners, and 58th in the over 40’s category.

Event 6 was the Dirty Weekend, Rat Race at Burghley House. This is World’s Largest Obstacle Course, stretching over 20 miles, incorporating 200 obstacles. This was a real test for his fitness. With loads of help from Christopher Bradford (pictured with him) they managed to complete the course in a respectable 6 hr 08 mins. They think they could have shed about an hour off their time, if it was not for the queues at the obstacles. They have already entered next year’s race, aiming to complete this 4 hours!

Event 7 was 7 mile mudrun, Total Warrior in Leeds. This was a little tame compared to The Rat Race, but had two insane obstacles, ‘The Sheep Dip’ and ‘Electric Shock Therapy. The Sheep Dip, involved been fully submerged in a skip full of ice cold water, and Electric Shock Therapy involved running through live wires, each time sending a electric shock through you, as you touched them. Here is Jas helping Kate over the Berlin Wall.

Event 8 was a Trail Half Marathon through Clumber Park. This was his first Trail Run, and he was not sure what to expect. The night before, it rained heavily, and Jas was a little cautious, not wanting to slip and injure himself. He was a little disappointed with his time of 2hr, and 8 secs! Here he is looking shattered after his run.

Event 9, was the JCB Mudrun, having ran this in 2012, he was excited to return to the place that started his love for Mudruns. The 5 mile course was just a mud bath, and he loved it! He completed the course in 55 mins, 12 secs, and came in 64th out of 2,700 runners. Here he is enjoying a cold shower at the finish line.

To date, Jas has run 85.4 miles and rose just over £ 700.

Finishing: Mounted on 1750 Micron Board and die cut.
We always relish the opportunity to produce innovative printed items for our clients, which is just one of the things that differentiates us from our competitors. We were recently asked to produce a self-locking leaflet dispenser and die cut leaflet for Hanson UK, a leading supplier of aggregates, cement and other heavy building materials.
Our paper engineering skills were put to the test – we printed the holder design onto 170gsm silk and then mounted it onto 1,750 micron board, before carefully die cutting to shape to create a self assembly unit. The accompanying two page leaflets were printed on 250 gsm silk and die cut with apertures to directly reflect the shape of the product packaging. The result is a durable, easy-to-assemble POS and an engaging, eye-catching leaflet that perfectly promotes Hanson’s product. Both pieces will be displayed in building merchants throughout the UK later this year.
A lot can happen and be achieved within 24 hours! The phone can ring and simultaneously an email can ping your inbox. That was exactly what happen to us last week. The classic, ‘I’m ringing you to let you know I’ve emailed you’ was the opening line to the conversation. It was Thursday mid-morning, when our client phoned in a controlled panic, they had an event on Saturday, and needed 500 brochures for their delegate packs. The email was the artwork.
This was no simply operation, the artwork was mainly black, detailed match up across spreads, proofs had to be output, the cover had to be matt laminated, oh and the paper had be ordered, and tactful and challenging conversations with production was required. This was not a simple job; the brochure was intended to be a souvenir of the event and had to be flawless. Printing this digitally was not an option.
With great planning, attention to detail and focusing on client expectations, we flexed our production muscles, and slotted this project into our busy production schedule (and with last minute amends to the artwork) and delivered 550 brochures on Friday afternoon. Our client was extremely delighted and comment ‘wow….you clearly have made a rod for your own back with this level of service’. It’s simply what we do, all the time. So next time when you think ‘impossible, we’ll need more time’ talk to us, we will help.
Saturday saw Jas compete in his fourth event, the Airfield Anarchy in Newark. This was 10K Mudrun, Jas’ second mudrun, and he was simply buzzing knowing he can play action man and get really dirty and muddy. The course was challenging in places, and thankfully the weather was kinder to him, than when he ran the The Avalanche Run – Chase the Yeti. Here’s a few action shots of Jas, he didn’t really make it cross the entire monkey bars……..more training required!

If you would like to sponsor Jas through his ‘Deadly 15 Event’ Challenge, to run 150 miles in 15 events, please use this link. All money is going to The Nomad Trust, a registered charity to help the vulnerable and homeless.
We are looking for an artworker to join our busy studio team and be part of a successful print company in Nottingham.
The successful applicant will have a proven track record, ideally with a knowledge of print, although not essential. They must have experience of Quark 9, Illustrator and Photoshop and be able to create print ready artwork from initial brief.
The ability and confidence to communicate with colleagues and peers in different departments as well as attention to detail and working to tight deadlines would be a distinct advantage.
