Pyramid Press will take delivery of a Speedmaster XL 75-5+L in June. It has been specified with Inpress Control inline spectral measurement but it also has the ability to tap into the existing off press Image Control facility as needed.
The new press replaces a Speedmaster CD 74 and will give the company a significant lift in B2 capacity.
“With this press we expect higher productivity and, with that, the ability to meet the increasing pressures on turnround times. For our customers it means we can offer an even faster service, top print quality and value for money,” says Jonathan Smith, director of the Nottingham company.
Pyramid Press has specified five printing units and a coater. Although it had previously run a six-colour in B2 format a change in market demand means that the sixth unit is no longer cost justifiable. The company runs B1 to B3 Heidelberg equipment as well as offering a digital and NCR service.
“Heidelberg is a known entity. We know we are buying the best and customers know the Speedmaster reputation for quality. Buying a Speedmaster XL 75 is a solid investment,” says Mr Smith.
Operators have undertaken off site training at Heidelberg UK’s HQ in Brentford and will have further instruction at Pyramid Press at time of installation. The press will run two shifts a day to meet demand.
Pyramid is an environmentally aware company which runs primarily FSC® Chain of Custody papers and which works in collaboration with the World Land Trust to carbon balance papers if customers require it. The Speedmaster XL 75 is an energy efficient press.
The likes of Google and Facebook have been busy telling brands that the most effective way to reach consumers is through digital communications. But whether they are sending out direct mail packs to stakeholders or running imaginative poster campaigns, the tech giants have learned that they cannot do without print advertising to connect with their audiences.
Our annual Christmas raffle, raised £250 for Emmanuel House. Emmanuel House exists to support homeless, vulnerable or isolated adults in and around Nottingham. We received this awesome ‘Thank You’ letter from Dennis Tully, their Chief Executive Officer. A big ‘Thank You’ to all our generous staff who purchased the raffle tickets, too.
When Anna at ILS English asked us to design and print their new Corporate Brochure it was a challenge we couldn’t resist. Although a brochure sounds quite straight forward there was an interesting twist. This brochure had to appeal to overseas students, some with limited or no experience of the English Language. ILS wanted to send out a clear message ‘Achieve your ambitions with ILS English Language Training and Nottingham is a great place to live whilst you are learning’.
We worked closely with Anna, Denny and the ILS Team for a number of months to achieve our joint goal. During the initial stages we produced different visuals and design concepts and discussed various print options. We explored brochure sizes, coated and uncoated materials, Pantone inks for vibrancy against CMYK conversions and finally Lamination and Spot UV effects.
It was a pleasure to work with the ILS Team and it was lovely to receive the following feedback.
“We are extremely pleased with our new ILS Brochure which has been designed and printed by Pyramid Press. Denny and I worked closely with Gary and Alistair through every stage of the design process. They listened to our requirements, discussed every detail and gave us the result we wanted”.
A massive ‘thank you’ to everyone who donated and sponsored us. We raised £563.75 for the charity Equation. Ken Stirling won the Champagne with an awesome guess of our collective time of 6hrs 45mins, only 6 seconds out!
Matthew Willson represented England in one of the world’s more extreme competitions.
Matthew was one of eight members of the England team competing at the Skydiving World Championships at Teuge, Netherlands.
They came up against more experienced sky-divers and finished tenth.
Matthew has been skydiving for eight years after being inspired by his father, Mark Willson.
Matthew said: “My dad has been skydiving for years and when I was 16 I used to go to Langar Airfield and try it for myself.
“I have done a lot of events nationally in the past. It was an honour to get selected for my country in something that I love.”
He said the international competition added an extra adrenaline rush that had been lost over the years.
“When you have jumped out of a plane a few times there isn’t the same nerves or tension that you get when you do it for the first time,” Matthew said.
“However, when it’s a competition there’s an added rush because there’s a bit of pressure to do something for your country.
“The main thing I like about the sport is that it’s different.
“I’ve always wanted to do something that isn’t one of your everyday activities.”
The team performed in different formations in various disciplines.
Matthew was selected after impressing at the national championships and is hoping to get more international opportunities.
“We didn’t realise we had qualified for the world championships until a short time before the event, so we didn’t get the chance to do proper training,” he said.
“Given a bit more time, hopefully we can build on our performances and be better by the time we reach the next championships.”
We are proud to announce that Matthew Willson and his team the ‘Awkward Turtles’ will be representing the UK at this year’s 13th Annual FAI European Formation Skydiving Championships and the 20th Annual FAI World Cup of Formation Skydiving. The event is being held in Teuge, the home of the National Skydiving Centre of The Netherlands, from the 8th to 12th Sept.
The Awkward Turtles, face some tough competition from teams from the USA, Qatar, Italy, France, Russia, and the Netherlands, all competing for the this prestigious award.
Jumping out of a Cessna Supervans C-208B traveling at a speed of 80 knots (± 5 knots), the team will perform their formations, aiming for full marks from the judges.
Here are few pictures of the Awkward Turtles.
We all wish the Awkward Turtles all the best for both competitions.

We have taken delivery of our first Plug-in Hybrid car. After months of trawling through brochures, and test-driving the range of Plug-in Hybrid cars, we opted for the new VW Golf GTE.
The VW Golf GTE was selected for its phenomenal statistics. The 1.4 petrol engine combined with the batteries travels an amazing 166 miles per gallon, 204PS and 0-62 mph in 7.6 secs and a top speed of 138mph. The CO2 omissions are only 35g/km compared to 107g/km on the standard 1.6 diesel powered Golf.
This is just another example of how Pyramid Press is striving towards a greener environment and making positive steps to reduce our carbon footprint.
